Brandon Watts and Selah Sound have released their new gospel single “Sunday Morning”, with the song arriving on October 4, 2026 across major streaming platforms, featuring a charitable element to the release, with the first year's streaming proceeds going to the Ablaze Youth Choir in Baton Rouge, Louisiana..
The single is available across major streaming platforms, and the timing also gives the song a fitting connection to its subject - Sunday mornings were central to Watts' childhood, with his mother taking the family to church every week and helping establish the relationship between faith, music and community that eventually found its way into the song.
The artwork tells part of the story too
The artwork for “Sunday Morning” was created by September Unique and was designed around the same memories that inspired the song, where the collage brings together images from Watts' childhood - it includes a photograph of Watts as a child, the church he attended, the baby-blue Lincoln Town Car his family used to travel to church and imagery representing the choir and wider church community.
The track itself combines traditional choir music with contemporary pop and elements of swing, putting it somewhere between classic gospel influences and a more modern Christian music production which kind of fits with the direction Watts and Selah Sound have been developing since their earlier work.
Their 2025 album Rewind: Live in Brooklyn was deliberately built around the sound and atmosphere of 1990s gospel, while bringing that style to a younger audience, where the project included influences from artists such as John P. Kee, Hezekiah Walker and Ricky Dillard, but was recorded as a contemporary live release rather than an attempt to simply recreate an old gospel record.
The song was written by Brandon Watts, Matthias Patrick and Bryen Reeves, and production was handled by Watts, Gary Coach and Trenton Bylo.
Watts himself iis also the pastor and founder of Epiphany Brooklyn, where Selah Sound developed alongside the church's worship and creative community, while earlier coverage of Selah Sound described Epiphany Brooklyn as having a congregation heavily made up of millennials and Gen Z, while Watts has spoken about wanting the group's music to connect traditional gospel with a newer generation.
The first year's streaming proceeds from “Sunday Morning” will be going towards the choir, which has a direct connection to the story behind the song because Watts has said he sees its young singers as carrying forward the kind of work his mother did when he was growing up.
Sunday Morning follows Selah Sound's growing profile
This isn't the group's first release to attract attention, either - Brandon Watts and Selah Sound's previous single “Unmatched” featuring Lena Byrd Miles was reported at number 64 on the Billboard Mediabase chart at the end of September, with the team saying it was moving towards the Top 50.
Selah Sound also released Rewind: Live in Brooklyn through TRIBL Records in June 2025, where the ten-track album was recorded live and included songs such as “Well Done”, “Unmatched” and “When We Get There”.
So while “Sunday Morning” is a personal tribute, it is arriving at a point when Watts and Selah Sound are already building a recognizable place within the modern gospel scene.
“Sunday Morning” is available from October 4, 2026 on major streaming platforms, such as spotify.
