The Private Diary of Pope Francis: Release Date, and What the Book Reveals

The Private Diary of Pope Francis cover

The Private Diary of Pope Francis is a new book featuring diary entries from the late pope, covering more than 30 years of his life - the earliest entries date back to 1992, long before he became pope, and it's being published by Image, part of Penguin Random House Christian Publishing Group, in partnership with the Vatican Publishing House.

What makes this book different from Pope Francis's earlier books?

Francis had already published books such as The Name of God Is Mercy and Hope, so this isn't his first book to reach readers outside the Church, but the material here is different, as rather than speeches or texts prepared for publication, this collection uses diary entries that remained private during his lifetime.

It covers years before he became pope as well as his time in the role, and the entries include personal reflections on his spiritual life, along with questions and struggles he wrote about along the way - these are private writings, though, not official Vatican statements or formal Church teaching.

Where can you preorder The Private Diary of Pope Francis?

The book will be released on November 24.
